Dina Amanatides

Dina Amanatides (OAM) is the doyenne of “first generation” Greek Australian literature. She was born in the township of Meligalas in Southern Greece and migrated to Australia in 1958. She has published prolifically in the Greek language since the 1970s, her body of work spanning numerous collections of poetry, short stories, aphorisms, and plays, and amounts to a poignant archive of the Greek migrant experience in Australia across half a century. For her literary contribution, Amanatides was presented with the Award for Excellence in Multicultural Affairs in 2006 and the Medal Order of Australia (OAM) in 2011. A selection of her poetry has been translated into English with the collection Dreams of Clay, Drops of Dew (2011) as well as her collection Fragile World (2014).
